Media Unit Founded

  • Founded at Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala by Patron Mr. Francis Warnakulasooriya.
  • Established as one of Sri Lanka's first school-based trilingual media units.

Kunchanada Launched

  • Inaugural edition of the all-island interschool trilingual media competition.
  • Conducted in Sinhala, English, and Tamil — a first of its kind in Sri Lanka.

Ran Ankura Established

  • Intra-school trilingual competition launched exclusively for Maliyadeva College students.
  • Created an internal proving ground to sharpen skills ahead of islandwide competitions.

Our Departments

Broadcasting

Covering announcing, sports commentary, dubbing, and live audio for school events. MMU members compete in these disciplines at Kunchanada and train through Praharsha workshops.

Event Management

Planning and executing five signature annual events — Kunchanada, Dakma, Ran Ankura, Praharsha, and Inside Media — alongside support for all school occasions.

Video Production

Recording, editing, and producing video content for school events, competitions, and MMU productions including Devan's Stars and Radio Drama.

Graphic Design

Visual identity, event branding, cartoon drawing competitions, and all printed and digital design work for MMU events and publications including Siyesa.

News & Journalism

Publishing Siyesa, MMU's student newspaper, and producing news content covering school life, media competitions, and youth media in Sri Lanka.

Competitive

Representing MMU at interschool media competitions across Sri Lanka, training members to compete and win in announcing, dubbing, photography, and other media disciplines.
